L’Oreal Paris announced that it has joined forces with the luxury fashion house Balmain Paris on a limited edition lipstick collection. Despite having an impressive array of A-list ambassadors across its make-up, skincare and hair offerings, this is L’Oreal Paris’ first ever collaboration with a fashion house and is bound to spark intrigue among fashion and beauty fans.
Under the helm of designer Olivier Rousteing, Balmain has built a strong glamazon aesthetic, as well as its #BalmainArmy of supermodels, which includes Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner. It’s also one of the few fashion houses that can be relied on to have a distinct hair and make-up look for it’s show at Paris Fashion Week. There’s no doubt, Rousteing will have injected some of that drama and glamour into the 12 Color Riche lipsticks that he’s created for L’Oreal Paris.
While this might be a first for L’Oreal Paris, Rousteing is no stranger to collaborating with high street brands. In 2015, he oversaw the Balmain X H&M collection, which sold out in record time, and last year, Rousteing designed a collection for Nike Lab under his own name.
So, what can we expect from the forthcoming lipstick collection? If previous collaborations are anything to go by, there will be more than a smattering of gold. Rousteing will be overseeing the shades, the packaging and the ad campaign. Being famously close to the Kardashian clan, no doubt there will be at least three nude shades within the 12 as a nod to Kim, who is regularly seen sporting a more natural lip colour.
